Tales of one with time: Entry No. 8

I for one, was born in and grew up in the 90's, and of one thing is definately true is that everything was better back then.... wasn't it, I mean, out shows on TV, children we're respectful, they made better music than they do today, our planet wasn't falling appart and even our air was cleaner to breath, so yeah, definately, it was better.

As you can see, the subject to treat now is on generational differences and gaps. You can see this occurance everywere, as you walk along the street it's very easy to see people of all ages and of all different types of tastes in everything, thinking theirs are better than the others' and actively showing disdain for one another and it's not really that ones' times are in fact superior, the thing here is the difference between generations.

There's definately some discord here, and there's a few suggestions I have for both sides for the betterment of themselves and so that they can peacefully interact with one another in the civilized way that we as a society claim to be, so let's start off:

For the youth:

  • Be respectful: I've seen these kids lately, I swear I saw a 6 year old girl call another one a "b**ch", that's just not right, and the same way their always talking in the worst, most conflictive was to their parents, grandparents, peers, people even younger
  • Read: Try to find a little bit of culture, read about things that happened in the past, you may even find something interesting, check out the music of old, there's a lot of great tunes out there; you'll probably find common ground between you and older people, thereby finding common interests, showing that you are people too to the old folks.
  • Don't worsen the problem: Every generation has the thing they like to complain about, the younger ones say that the state doesn't take them into account, that they're persecuted by the law just for being young and that the planet is messed up, but how can they when they're acting in an immature way, commiting crimes and have all their gadgets and gizmos running 24/7?
For the older generations:
  • Stop the blame: You blame the youth for everything, the planet is contaminated, there's rebels, always being disrespectful but these kids are inheriting the planet from you!, what does this mean? It's probably more your fault than theirs. It's your generations that gave birth to the new, so you destroy the planet and tell them it's theirs to fix, push them to rebel and it's you who is responsible for educating them.
  • Be comprehensive: Everyone went through that stage when combativeness was the norm and everyone else was to be held accountable for any problem you had, you went through it, so did I, try to be a little understanding.
  • Upgrade: Just as the young should read, you should not dwell on the past, attempt to understand the new technologies, the new ways to live life, a huge part of the problem between people is the lack of understanding and if you don't know where they're comming from, you'll never comprehend.
There's no reason for such arguments to break out, especially when they end up becoming violent, there's no reason for people to need to make riots, people are constantly trying to mess with one another and their rights and for what?Change begins at the individual level, please attempt to contribute towards a solution instead of idly standing by or even being the cause yourself.
